I would like to know the current status of the TIFF specification with
regards to JPEG compression. I have read the current spec and Tom Lane's
technical note, and notice that libtiff currently supports the methods
outlined in the tech note. Will this technical note become the basis of the
future method of using JPEG compression in TIFF files, or will the use of
JPEG compression be discouraged entirely? My PolyView application currently
reads both the old and new types, and writes the old (TIFF 6.0 version). I
don't wish to contribute to the generation of images in an obsolete format
so would like to change things to conform.
