Folks I have created a wiki page for working on the "bigtiff" design. http://gdal.maptools.org/twiki/bin/view/libtiff/BigTIFFDesign PS. I am happy with everything Steve has in his proposal so far. I didn't mean to imply the new format would be called BigTIFF - I just needed a name.
