I was hoping that Lee Howard's work might simplify this before I returned to my code as my attempts to wade through the JPEG interface in Libtiff did not get me very far.

The bottom-line of my JPEG work boils down to the anticlimactic patch here:

I did have several other items of interest that I found during my working towards this patch, and I posted to this list about those items, but that post didn't stir any discussion.

Since the small patch I developed resolves my concerns, I don't have anything more to do, myself.
