Other mailing lists use the 'back answer'-field to assure, that the answer-button addresses to the list, and not to the original sender.

About 1/3 the lists I am on do this.

Certain popular mail clients obscure address information and silently use the reply-to address, so when the user does the reply, they are not aware that an address other than the the sender's originating address has been substituted. They may also not provide a way to reply directly to the original sender if a reply-to address is supplied. This is supposed to make the mail clients easier to use. Thankfully, the primive email program I use asks me if I want to use the reply-to address.

The end result is unnecessary noise on the list (such as this email) and the occasional accidental posting to the list which results in embarrasment, creation of new enemies, and possible loss of employment.
