If you are on the tiff mailing list you are probably pretty technically minded, and being so you shouldn't have any problems with the specification. It is very well written and clear, and the specification is a good one. You *don't* have to be a super-geek to understand it. At the very least just download it and have a quick look (google for tiff6.pdf). Any further questions this is the place for it.
