The function you are referring to, if I remember correctly, uses the RGBA interface, and that should convert to 8 bit per channel RGBA, known to you as pf32bit after byteswapping. If you want, mail me the image (to my private email address, never mail such files on the list), and the code you have sofar, and I'll take a look.
