but BGR and RGB isn't a byte-order issue, like the Intel/Motorola thing.

well, let me restate that: i'd be very surprised to learn that 
Microsoft went with BGR because the early Intel CPUs cared about the order 
of the bytes in certain 24-bit data structures.
