(I took the liberty of changing the subject before replying; sorry if
I'm messing up anyone's threading!)

I've looked over the changes between 3.7.4 and 3.8.0.  As far as I can
tell, there should be no incompatible ABI changes.  To your knowledge,
are there any incompatible ABI changes?  There are clearly a bunch of
new functions, so applications that use them won't run with a 3.7.4 or
earlier shared library, but as far as I can tell, any older program
should run with the new library.

I'll plan on uploading libtiff 3.8.0 to debian shortly.
