1993.11.09 20:59 "Problem with tiff files that were ftp'd across a file system", by Dr. Lorien Y. Pratt
Hello,
We have a number of tiff files that seem to have been wrecked, and I'd like to avoid having to re-image them. The diagnostics are as follows:
------------------------------------------------------------------
choma% tiffdump hair-20-2-5.tiff
hair-20-2-5.tiff:
Magic: 0x4d4d <big-endian> Version: 0x2a
Directory 0: offset 557984 (0x883a0)
Directory 1: offset 16842755 (0x1010003)
hair-20-2-5.tiff: Error while reading directory count.
choma% tiffinfo hair-20-2-5.tiff
hair-20-2-5.tiff: TIFF directory is missing required "ImageLength" field.
choma%
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The process that created these munged files, as far as I can tell, is:
The NeXT application``grab'' created them.
They were ftp'd from the next to the SGI
They were ftp'd back to the next
We received an error in our image previewer
They were ftp'd to a sun with the tiffdump and tiffinfo programs for
analysis.
Any suggestions as to what went wrong?
