I'm not sure this will be much help, but here's my 2 cents anyway. In Borland Developer Studio 2006, I find that I need to include the lib files in the project. Merely having them in any folder does not suffice. If I don't, I get exactly the same results you're getting (compilation fine, but unresolved externals at liking time), so maybe this is worth a try.
