Thanks to everyone for your replies regarding the problem compiling libtiff
on
the non gcc hpux. 

We are using the development option compiler and using the 
-Ae or -Aa -D_HPUX_SOURCE flags but still get the following.

Unexpected symbol: "uint16" errors and
Indirection must be through a pointer error at line 86 in tif_aux.c and
anywhereelse there is a va_arg() call.

any ideas?
