Lee, I have gotten access to a FreeBSD system on sourceforge, and tested your problem. It seems that the GNU tool chain is now the default (at least for the linker) on FreeBSD. I have added a GNULDdso target in libtiff/Makefile.in and updated configure to use that on FreeBSD (as well as Linux). I would appreciate it if you could check out the current version from CVS and verify that everything configures, builds and installs cleanly for you.
