I checked in a fix to libtiff CVS which gets tiffgt (mostly) working 
properly on big endian CPUs.

One issue remains.  The image is displayed as if it has had its gamma 
adjusted by 2.2 (verified using GraphicsMagick) when displayed locally 
on a Sun workstation.  This makes the image appear brighter than 
expected.  The problem does not occur when tiffgt runs under 
Intel/FreeBSD and displays to the Sun monitor. Presumably this is due 
to some automatic function of OpenGL.  I would like to hear from 
anyone who knows how to fix this last issue.
