I would rather see another "beta".  The terminology for the file 
naming is not terribly important, but another beta only requires 
another single-digit change in any semi-automated scriptage.

In most cases, a formal release will be required before actual 
"pre-release exposure" will start taking place for most users.

We should not close the door on 3.9.X releases.  These are likely to 
be required for a couple of years in order to keep existing 
OS distributions happy.

As far as your latest updates go, I will be happy to test with them as 
soon as they compile. ;-)
