- I think such a TIFF 7.0 is the next logical step in the tiff story. The fact that such a beast ressembles PDF does not imply it is not.
I am not sure that your definition of TIFF 7 is what others would agree is the "next logical step" for TIFF - but some things are definitely necessary (> 32bit offsets, Flate compression, etc.)
- Adobe is indeed very 'open' about PDF. But the fact remains that it is a proprietary format, and the response of the community does show the difference.
It is NOT a proprietary format - it is a completely open and publicly documented specification. It can even be extended and enhanced (and subsetted) such as in the PDF/X specifictions (http://www.cgats.org). Therefore, it is NOT proprietary.
