Is there a way to write a subset of image data to a tiff file?
I need to filter a large image, thus read in only subset of the
input-image, and then want to write the processed subsets to the disk.
I thus need to access the the output file at arbitrary positions instead
of writing scanline after scanline.


A similar problem: can I open a file for read/write (I don't want to
append a new tiff directory) and read/write scanlines ?

Any hints would be greatly appreciated.
