Jay,

Even if it has little to do with TIFF, as Bob points out, I believe a question
like this pops up regularly.

The TIFF faq Andrey and I pointed to, is really a *TIFF* faq. This question,
together with a revised version of my answer, you code, and code that interfaces
with LibTiff to read input and write output, would be an excellent entry of a
*LibTiff* faq. Another recent question, the cropping question, would certainly
also qualify. Apart from avoiding giving the same answers over and over again,
such faq entries would be a) excellent additional examples of how to use LibTiff
in real-life situations, and b) especially interesting due to added imaging
related content.

Needless to say I'll come up with a LibTiff faq sooner rather then later, if
Andrey and Frank allow that. So if you're willing to contribute your code,
that's excellent. Especially if it also contains the interface to read from and
write to TIFF using LibTiff. (I'm not a C coder myself, I can read the stuff but
I'm not used to writing it, I'm a Delphi programmer, so these things are
certainly trivial to you but present an extra challenge for me.)
