I posted a question about having access to some private functionality
of the tiff library, specifically the fax group 3 and group 4 code,
through the tiff library's public interface.  I posted this in
response to a bug that is in the debian bug tracking system.  I have
actually not investigated it myself at all.  In any case, if anyone is
interested or has any advice, please see the bug referenced above.  If
