Andrew,

I do not see this as tied in any way to the library itself.  The library
makes no reference to mime types.

Likewise, the library makes no assumptions or suggestions about extensions.

I'm not sure what this means.  The ABI is substantially altered compared
to 3.9.x.  I'm not aware of any need for near-future ABI changes.

Bob or I could likely prepare a release candidate right now.  I'm not really
waiting for anything other than a sense from others that it seems ready.  Let
me turn this around.  Could people please raise their voice here on the list
if there is a reason not to proceed to a release candidate right now?   Would
anyone like to review the open bug list and see if they find something that
should be treated as release critical to fix?
