Thanx a lot for the information.I think I've managed to do it.My work involves
conversion of bitmap to tiff and vice versa.So even though 16bit formats are 
rarely used our application demands such a support.One more thing I would like 
to know is that about adding private tags.

Do we have to add a private sub directory for this purpose?Can it be directly 
done through any LIBTIFF functions?
