Thread2008.12.18 05:13 "Re: tiffvers.h - TIFFLIB_RELEASE macro addition", by Lee HowardFrank Warmerdam wrote: > However, as we split the 3.9 and 4.0 branches a "time stamp" no longer > clearly defines the libtiff version well. It's a non-issue for as far as I can foresee. As I see it, the "time stamp" problem is only a problem if 3.x releases after 3.9.0 are expected. I know that the code repositories have branched, but since neither branch has a non-beta public release in it, and since I have sincere doubts that any 3.9.1 release will ever exist, you probably are wasting your time worrying about it. I suspect that the time stamp will work just as well in the future as it has in the past. Now, if there truly will be concurrent releases in 3.x-land as well as 4.x-land then I agree that there is a problem. However, as of yet I see little to no evidence that we'll ever see that day come. My guess is that 3.9.0 will release first, then 4.0.0, and then a 4.0.1, etc... and never will a 3.9.1 occur. Believe me, I would be very pleased to be wrong with that guess... but I think that it's just the reality of what's going to happen. You could always procrastinate this "time stamp" fixing until that day came. :-) Thanks, Lee. |
