Yes, that would be perfect. Any container like that would do, without having to cram it into ImageDescription.
What about TIFFTAG_XMLPACKET? It's supposed to be for XMP. I don't know who or what I'd screw up if I started shoving other things in there that aren't part of official XMP.

That's easy... not really part of TIFF, but _in_ TIFF at least: define a tag to hold a JSON object, for example (or YAML/TOML/XML etc if you're so inclined).
Would be nice to make it official... but we can't do that :)
