Even, Thanks for your response. I am going to post your note on the Fedora list as well. That explains why everything worked perfectly for awhile, and then starting failing intermittently. It has been later fixed in upstream libtiff in http://bugzilla.maptools.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2297 . It is very likely that the correction will also go to Fedora in few days (the Ubuntu libtiff also had the same issue and it has been updated today).
