FWIW,

My TIFF reader will read that example file fine.

It only supports Tiff TechNote 1 form of JPEG.

My TIFF reader is not based on LibTIFF.

Photoshop uses the newer (technote 1) JPEG encoding.

And those files should be compatible (we test with libTIFF quite a bit, but I'm never sure which build they pick up).

Well, are they old-JPEG (TIFF 6 spec, buggy) or new JPEG (technote 1) encoded in the TIFF files?

Where did the failing images come from?

What version of LibTIFF are you using?

Did you compile it with JPEG (old or new) support?
