As an example, ExifTool 6.92 will print the following error message when presented with a BigTIFF image: "Bad IFD0 directory". This is because there are (unfortunately) TIFF-like files out there that use ID words other the standard TIFF 0x002a (42 decimal), so ExifTool can't veto a TIFF image based only on the TIFF ID word. However, most tools will complain about the invalid ID, so with most tools I would expect an error more like "Not a valid TIFF image", or "Unknown image format". - Phil |
