What a difference a weekend makes. Upon inspecting my setup this morning, I discovered that I had added one version of libtiff.lib to the project, while listing the library directory for another build of the same library. I guess that I provided enough information to compile the code without a warning, but not enough to run it successfully. This does not explain some the odd behavior but since everything works, I can't complain. Thank you for all your help!
