I'd suggest to follow official installation procedure.
Platform SDK is installed under its own location and it's
possible to configure environment/Visual C++ to use it without
moving any files.

Here is a page where you can find instructions how to build GDAL
using Visual C++ Express Edition. In fact, these are general purpose
guidelines:
