If it's only about new/different tags (which AFAIK is the case), there's IMHO no need to disable them (for what reason ever) so that may explain why the TIFF/EP define is gone again.

I have took a look at http://www.asmail.be/msg0054590890.html, but I cannot find the tiff/ep support at the current version of tifflib. Hence, is it still support for TIFF/EP?
