A quick google shows around 74,000 hits for libtiff, so the site is potentially very lucrative. Unfortunately this could suffocate libtiff. If he is forced to remove the copy of the site contents then libtiff quickly loses an obvious presence on the web.
It might be best to move over to sourceforge as the next obvious place to look for open source software - that would give a new web
Libtiff is in no danger of being "suffocated" due to lack of web hits. There are no other viable open source alternatives. FreshMeat and other open source index sites direct potential users to the real home of libtiff. Linux and *BSD distributions already support libtiff. The many users of libtiff will continue to support it as well.
One day Sourceforge may collapse under its own weight, or suddenly go bankrupt.
