Libtiff is in no danger of being "suffocated" due to lack of web hits.
There are no other viable open source alternatives. FreshMeat and
other open source index sites direct potential users to the real home
of libtiff. Linux and *BSD distributions already support libtiff.
The many users of libtiff will continue to support it as well.

One day Sourceforge may collapse under its own weight, or suddenly go
bankrupt.
