There are no other viable open source alternatives. FreshMeat and other open source index sites direct potential users to the real home of libtiff. Linux and *BSD distributions already support libtiff. The many users of libtiff will continue to support it as well. One day Sourceforge may collapse under its own weight, or suddenly go bankrupt.
