I am working with GM too, as per libtiff utilities I just wanted to know if there is something useful among them. If they are so antique then i will stop examining them.

The formats supported by these utilities date from 1988 or so (when they were originally developed). As a result, the GIF reader supports version 87a but not version 89a, which is almost always used now. BMP suffers even worse since several major BMP versions have emerged since 1988.
