What could be done is to define a new TIFF-header. In stead of the magic number 42 the number 64 could be used.

The number 64 would not be as meaningful as the 42 is. At least, 42 is considered to be the answer to the last of all questions (*). One way to change the number but keep the meaning would be to use the hexadecimal number 0x42 (= 66). Or you may use another base (e.g. base 64 would yield 0x102 (= 258)).

You see, there is plenty of discussions left ;-)
