Autosave001.tif is the file I create using libtiff. That opens fine in everything. broken.tiff is the file that PS writes after converting the image from 32 bit to 16 bit and saving it.

When using GraphicsMagick, I do see that libtiff returns the error

Floating point "Predictor" not supported with 1 data format. (PredictorSetup).

It would be interesting to adjust the TIFF tags to change the sample format to floating point and see if the data is indeed floating point, or if the predictor was wrongly specified.
