Hi Floris,

One more thing: if you plan to apply OCR on the B&W images you may want to set also in state 4 ICAP_BITDEPTHREDUCTION to TWBR_THRESHOLD - this may improve the OCR results (as opposed to TWBR_DIFFUSION or TWBR_HALFTONE).

Best regards,
Marius Niculescu

Hi Floris,

A Group 4 B&W compressed memory transfer saved as/converted to a multi-page TIFF would be one choice. You may want to read in teh TWAIN Spec about ICAP_COMPRESSION in the (G3x, G4 or even JBIG is the DS/scanner supports it) and the compressed buffered Memory Transfer mode with strips. The final image may be very easily assembled simply by appending each strip at the end of the previous one received.

As an example, there is a demo of an C++/ActiveX library for TWAIN application programming at www.jflinc.com, called ObjectTWAIN. The demo comes with a sample which may execute the transfer as G4 compressed strips and convert them to G4 TIFF files. If the scanner/DS supports natively G4 the transfer mode is compressed memory. Otherwise uncompressed strips are transferred and then ObjectTWAIN applies the G4 compression before to pass each image to the application as a TIFF file.

Best regards,
Marius Niculescu

    Hi all,

Does somebody know a bit what's the best format / compression to use when scanning mainly letters (black & white)?
Scanned documents are saved to disc (more pages in one document are possible), after that some will be OCR-ed.

I know that there's probably not one good answer, but I would like to start with something good (to test / demo), and perhaps to change afterwards.

    Thanks in advance,

    Sincerely,
    Floris S. Brouwer,
