extensions as legit TIFF. Bob's 3 bits per pixel palette images are a perfect example. Nowhere in the spec mentioned this is. But it is a logical extension of what is mentioned, and it is completely unambigious.

There is every indication that 3 bits per pixel palette images will become the wave of the future. Bits are saved.

To be absolutely clear and unambigious myself: I meant that these images should indeed be accepted as legit TIFF. And I do agree they're useful, too.

The really annoying "new rule" that seems to have popped up recently is that 24 bits-per-sample images are supposed to be swapped for endianness. To me that is still a resounding "huh"? I have yet to encounter a CPU with a 24-bit processor word.

I'm real happy to hear I wasn't the only one going 'huh'.
