by the way, is there sofware available to convert TIF files into PDF format?
A number of them, depending on your target platform of choice. Some of my favorites are ImageMagick (<http://www.imagemagick.org>) and Tiff2PDF (<http://www.fastio.com/tiff2pdf.html>).
Also, if you want to write your own or include such functionality in your own application, I recommend PDFlib (<http://www.pdflib.com>). It's the most comprehensive PDF GENERATION (as opposed to manipulation) library out there.
