I have not been paying much attention to this thread, but it seems to me that a lot of energy has already been expended re-inventing something which already exists (in a slightly different form) as a W3 standard.

I would have to say it's a substantially different form, and you're completely correct in making this remark.

Since it wasn't obvious enough, it needs to be stressed: Bob's first post in this thread, http://www.asmail.be/msg0054916232.html, is the single one that is on-topic and really addresses the issue. Anyone interesting in mixing standard hyperlink functionality with TIFF, should take that post to be definitive.

Rob's and my talk is only interesting to anyone wanting to add a non-standard hyperlink functionality to TIFF, by allocating a private tag code with adobe and storing the sorts of proprietary data we discussed in it. Perhaps this is useful if one needs such a mix in a proprietary application, rather then a standard web browser. What Rob and I discussed is also interesting from the point of view of the TIFF file format, how to use private tags and such, how to store dynamic list data in a tag, scope of tags, and so on. Mostly, Rob and I were just having off-topic fun with data's.
