I concur, at least for TIFF6. If a compressed palette is generally useful, it should be included in TIFF7 or BigTIFF or whatever the next version of the standard is called (by the way, how is it coming?


(forgive me for changing the subject line)

Are 16bit images with colormaps actually common? I have never supported them in my software and haven't encountered any in my various projects. Who has run into them? Is this an area we should be worried about handling efficiently?
