Oops, sorry, I didn't read carefully enough the first time. The older MS Imaging application probably won't handle JPEG compressed TIFF files very well either, as JPEG compression in TIFF is a relatively recent invention. But on the other hand, the older Imaging application will properly handle most other valid TIFF image compression types, including LZW.

It's just a bug in the current M$ application. However, one suggestion might be to use the older Microsoft/Kodak/Wang Imaging application that came with Windows 2000 and previous versions and did not include this same problem. ----- Original Message -----

When I use libtiff to create a jpeg compressed tiff it can not be viewed by Microsoft image viewer (or any other Microsoft product). The image appears as a black image of the correct height and width. Also Microsoft image viewer throws an error that says it is an invalid image. The tiff can be opened by other image viewers just not Microsoft ones. Does anyone have any information on this problem and even possibly a work around?
