I’m currently going through all the libtiff-using source packages in Debian to identify which are using the libtiff types, to identify the scope of the breakage if we disable the old typenames. I’ll have some more to write about this once I’ve finished going through the sources.

I just checked source code for the 'xv' program (from 1994) and it is using the libtiff typedefs. :-)

The libtiff elements I see being used look the same as they do today. Same function names and same typedefs.

Looking at 'xloadimage' sources from 1993, I do NOT see any use of libtiff typedefs.

The netpbm software is using libtiff typedefs.

The 'lcms2' software is using libtiff typedefs.

The 'FreeImage' software is using libtiff typedefs.
