2006.03.02 13:23 "[Tiff] OJPEG support", by Joris Van Damme
Folks,
Some of you may remember - I launched a request for OJPEG testfiles and funding a little time ago.
Several people contributes testfiles. Many thanks! I've now enhanced my prototype decoder to support all of these testfiles. As this prototype decoder is inside my own proprietary TIFF codec, which is very different from LibTiff, next some additional difficult translation into a version that fits neatly into LibTiff is on the menu.
At this point, I would like to repeat my requests.
- It is crucial for this project that I get as many testfiles as possible, from as many different sources as possible. There is no unambigious specification - OJPEG specification never was unambigious. There has never been much opportunity for lazy OJPEG writer vendors to test the results of their code with other apps. The result is that OJPEG is only defined by testfiles. Various flavors exist, various wild clear bugs add to personal interpretation of ambigious spec. If I haven't got testfiles to illustrate the vast majority of OJPEG writer implementations, chances are the results of my effort are not going to be very useful for you. If you have OJPEG images laying about, and haven't yet posted them to me, please consider doing so.
- I have gathered some funds for this project. Not halfway enough to justify the time I put in, though, not even at my lowest of low rates.
- So, I guess you could say I'm the primary funder, myself. I nevertheless decided to go ahead. But, if anyone at this stage should consider to share a bit of this burden and contribute some funds, please let me know.
