Ah, interesting. I see... In theory, pure LERC doesn't depend on zlib support either, but the code was taken from GDAL's where zlib is more or less a requirement, hence there was no specific need to check for that
So there would be 2 options:
- add #ifdef guards for zlib availability in a number of locations in tif_lerc.c
- or just require that LERC support is dependent on zlib support, which is what you propose and seems reasonable.
I doubt anyone who will build with LERC support enabled will build without zlib support, so I could probably live with that issue for this release. But having that fixed in master could be better indeed.
