2002.02.13 09:17 "Multi-page TIFF; how does it work?", by James Chalcroft
Sorry to bother the list with an "obvious" question, but I am a puzzled new subscriber to this list.
My question is; how is it known to the TIFF reading software whether a file contains one or multiple images?
I had expected that perhaps a special tag would indicate the presence of multiple images, but my attempts so far to locate this tag have been unsuccessful, nor did I find anything helpful in the TIFF revision 6.0 draft 1 of 14.Feb.1992.
May I assume then that multiple images are simply concatenated in the file and that a TIFF reader need not know at the start how big the image data are but should happily continue reading images after the first one until it experiences <EOF>.
Could someone please elucidate the file structure for me?
Thanks a lot.
