I've made some changes to tiffsplit which I think improve it - it now creates file names with #s rather than the cryptic alphabetic numbering scheme (why was it done that way), allows you to specific the first #, and to specify an increment (including negative #s).
tiffsplit works in the same way as UNIX "split" utility works. Though more flexibility is always welcome.
