Another thing that may be 'spirit' related is the Tile/Strip ByteCounts... The current Wiki allows these to be specified with 8byte wide values. It seems that even though they are not related, they are somehow related, as the idea of having a single strip or tile growing beyond 4 gig is just as wild - or as carefull - as the idea of a single tag growing beyond 4 gig in size.

I'm a bit late on this discussion, but I have only one thought: if the one can construct the file with TileWidth/Height = 1, then we must be able to store as many tile offsets/counts as pixels in the image. If the TileOffsets/Counts will be limited by the 32-bit value then we should add special clause to the specification discussing the problems when the Strip/Tile things exceed the 64 bit.

That is why the solution with 64 bit tag counts looks simpler for me.
