ImageIO is documented; libTIFF is not. It certainly seems to me that the existence of libTIFF.dylib inside the ImageIO framework should be considered an implementation detail, not to be depended on.

Er, I thought that libtiff was a private framework of ImageIO. So yes, we were always in in agreement. I was just trying to explain the comment from Chris that libtiff exists in OSX. Yes, it does exist on OSX but it is not to be used (unless, you work for Apple? ;) ).
