Just because it's on Wikipedia does not make it correct.

Yes, when Aldus created it that was the name. However, when Adobe acquired Aldus (and TIFF), we consciously removed the acronym. So it has not been valid for more than 20 years (TIFF v6 - 1992).

TIFF was the acronym of "Tagged Image File Format" as of it's creation by Aldus. If Adobe's official position is that this is not anymore the case you may want to edit the TIFF Wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TIFF to reflect this situation.

You may consult the official TIFF v6 specification for confirmation.

Subject: [Tiff] TIFF acronym

I've been doing some research on TIFF for a little while and in my findings I have seen the acronym dropped between revisions four and five. I was wondering if TIFF is TIFF (like SOAP is now SOAP) or if it still stands for Tagged Image File Format (or Tag Image File Format).

Any help and/or references would be much appreciated.
