Ghostscript can also be loaded at run time as a DLL. That is how GraphicsMagick invokes it under Windows. That approach avoids the extra executable problem.

DLL is executable in my book. My use of the word 'executable' was very unfortunate. I'm talking about weight multiplied by complication multiplied by not having coded it myself and thus not knowing whether it's good and the most direct route to the output, actually, whatever form. I'm also talking about extra complication when debugging, as well as distributing.

Let's end the discussion. It's probably off-topic for most here. Plus, I'm in danger of having to agree with you, in the end, cause I do see your point. <grin>
