I'm creating a bunch of multi-image tiffs from my scanner using HP Solution Center. tiffsplit and most other utilities fail with some tiffs. tiffdump is the only utility that works on all the files. The error I get is 'Error fetching data for field "BitsPerSample".'

I've tried this on two machines, the first is a 32bit Fedora 5 system (libtiff-3.8.2-1.fc5.i386)

LIBTIFF, Version 3.8.2

The second is a 64 bit machine running Kubuntu 8.04 (libtiff4_3.8.2-7ubuntu3.6_amd64.deb, tifftools-3.8.2-7ubuntu3.6_amd64.deb) LIBTIFF, Version 3.8.2

... I downloaded and built 4.0beta6 and it worked, so I tried the same with the last stable release (3.9.4) and it worked too. Yeah! Looked through ChangeLog, and changes dated 2007-02-22 may have addressed this issue -- can't tell as Bugzilla's down, but this may have been bug 890.
