1998.09.22 14:49 "TIFF Questions - TIFF 7.0 ?", by Ed Grissom
Hello TIFF users:
I have several questions about the TIFF format, and specifically about extensions to the current TIFF 6.0 format or proposals for additions to a new 7.0 format. Sam recently said that the LibTIFF mailing list was as good a place as any for general TIFF questions (not specifically related to LibTIFF).
I am sending each question as a separate message so that discussion on each issue does not get lost in replies about other issues. The subject lines will be:
- Photometric interpretation of multi-band, NON-alpha images ?
- Large images (>2gb & >4gb)
- Sparse images (uninstantiated tiles/strips)
- Transparent pixel value (no transparency mask)
Just to let you know where I am coming from, my group at Intergraph sells software and hardware for use with satellite imagery, and scanned aerial photographs and maps. I am not an expert in the areas that deal with these images; my work is in raster I/O, so some of the terminology and numbers may not be exactly right, but I hope I can get the gist of my message across.
Stay tuned for further messages....
