I retrieved what I think is the tiff files via ftp site: ftp://ftp.sgi/graphics/tiff. In the HOWTo document, to extract the information from the file this line must be entered: zcat tiff-v3.4-tar.exe. I would imagine that this is some kind of decompression program. Where can I get it?

The stuff you retrieved is a Tiff library. I just started using it two weeks ago. It seems pretty solid. Are you trying to unstuff the download on a UNIX or a Windows 95 machine? For windows, just run the self extracting archive (.exe file).

You may want to go back and check the directory for a zip version archive as well.
